Koufonisia Beaches

The beaches at Koufonisia are fascinating. Golden sand, pebbles, wild looking rock formations, with or without clothes, take your pick!

Finikas or Charokopou Beach

The main road of Koufonisi starts east of the port and ends up at Finikas or Charokopou beach. Almost 1,5 kilometers east of Chora. Very small, but sandy and extremely beautiful.

Fanos

Sandy beach, 1,5 kilometers east of Chora and close to Finikas, ideal for sea sports and surfing. Between Fanos and Charokopou there is a camping area with a restaurant and some basic facilities.

Platia Pounda or Italida (Italian lady)

This is the most frequented beach of the island, also called Italida from a resident in the area with Italian origin. It is 2 kilometers east of Chora, and has sand, rocks and sand dunes.

Swimming Pools

Passing Platia Pounda, and keeping our course towards the same direction, we come to a rocky area with the so called swimming pools, "pisines" in Greek. Small narrow gulfs with openings on the rocks, where one can enjoy a swim in waters clean and calm as the water in a swimming pool.

Platia Pounda or Italida

Pori

Considered the best beach in the island, 3 kilometers east of Chora. This moon shaped beach with fine sand, is well protected from the north winds (Meltemia) that usually blow during August, and has shallow, crystal blue waters.

Gala

Gala, 3,5 kilometers from Chora, is a small pebbled beach like an open cave, connecting to the sea through a narrow opening.
The name means milk in Greek, and it comes from the frothy waves bursting onto the rocks.

Nero

This is a beach of sand and beautifully colored stones, in Lower Koufonisi and can be reached by boat. It is relatively small, and gathers considerable crowds.

Megali Ammos

The main beach at the port of Koufonisi, popular and extremely clean.
